Day 10: Getting Into The Groove! #nanowrimo #amwriting

Day 10 of nanowrimo.png

So here we are ten days into National Novel Writing month, and I’m getting into my groove I think. I did some research on the Jazz scene in the 1950s as that’s where I’m at with writing. You can see what my project is about here. Today I wrote less than I would have hoped. That said I did start late and it’s already just after 11:00 pm London time. And I was reading for research. But the good thing is as you can see, I still only need to write less than 1,000 words a day,  for my next addition to my romance series. When I look at it like that, life really does not seem that bad actually. 🙂  I can knock out under 1,000  a day no probs… all I need to do is be disciplined and do it! No You-Tube, or messing around. Just park my ass and write .

Tomorrow’s another day, I’ll try this theory of park it and write it tomorrow.

How are you doing fellow #nanowrimo writers?? Is the word count coming along? What’s your camp like online? Mine is really lively actually, I can’t keep up with all the conversation. Some lovely writers though, I seem to be the only one writing  romance… I can work with that it’s okay. Quite a few crime and fantasy writers in my camp.

NaNoWriMo Update: Week One #amwriting #writerslife

nano3nanao

Jes … where did week one go? I was up to my eyebrows in words, but just not words for my NaNoWriMo project! Last week the race was on to meet the deadline Didi and I set ourselves, to wrap up our first anthology we’re publishing together. We plan to release it on the 28th. I seem to have bitten off more than I can chew! As I also have book #2 of my romance series out in just ten days!

As a result of all this exciting stuff, I’m only 2,000 words deep into my actual NaNoWriMo project, which is novella #3 of my romance series. The plan is to focus on  it this week, starting right now I have a few hours to write. How’s  your word count going?

Please tell me it’s doing better than mine?? Drop me an update comment.

My Day Three: NaNoWriMo Update #amwriting #writerslife #nanowrimo

Happy Monday!

I logged on this morning keen to read all the progress updates from my fellow NaNoWriMo buddies. You’re all looking good! I’ve found my new camp and writing mates. I’m in camp thirty six, anyone there? Do you like your camp? So far I’ve spoke to a writer over in the USA in Kentucky writing fan fiction. Here’s my nanowrimo progress.

Day One:

Well Saturday night I did make a start on my novella to write this month, but I never actually typed anything. I outlined the story. You guys remember I’m a plotter right? I can’t do this panster writer stuff very well. I’m kind of learning to fly by my knickers when writing, during with my weekly writing challenges, with my writing buddy Didi Oviatt slowly. Very slowly.

Day Two:

On Sunday I did a bit of research. Book #3 of the Romance Set in Paradise series will have a little historical feel to it. Not a lot, but the characters are slightly more mature. Most of my characters are around my age mid thirties. This romance novella will feature a heroine in her fifties. I look forward to writing the POV of a more mature lady. Research is needed as I’m featuring the 1950s jazz scene. Woooo hooo! An era I love, and have referenced in previous stories I’ve wrote. However I’ve never actually taken it there in a full book and really made use of it. This story will move between the present and the past.  And the exotic paradise location is … Greece! Somewhere I have been and really liked. I won’t say too much in case I change my mind lost moment. I knocked out five hundred words last night.

Today I have a few hours to write, I plan to write like no one is looking, knock out some serious word count. I’ll be up to my eyebrows in words for a few hours.

Have a great day!

What Camp Are You In For National Novel Writing Month? #nanowrimo #writerslife #amwriting

women writer funny

I’m limbering up for July’s marathon month of writing, with fellow writers around the world. I’m excited to take part in National Novel Writing month for the second time! I’ve updated my profile and jumped into a writing camp.  I just clicked “surprise me with random cabin mates.” This time I don’t care what group/camp I’m assigned to. I look forward to motivating, and being motivated by random writers around the world in my camp. I’ve set my goal : write book #3 of my romance series, predicting about 25,000 words for this short story. Saturday night… it’s show time!

If you’re doing Nanowrimo in July, what camp are you in? Have you signed up to one? Those of us that are taking part let’s keep in contact throughout July.

Good luck writers!!

Good Luck #Nanowrimo Writers! It’s Midnight in London… I’m making a start! #amwriting #romancenovels

Good luck

Good luck writers,  whoever you are and where ever you are in the world I wish you love and luck. Here in London I’m in the zone it’s midnight. It’s the 1st July. I’m not tired yet so I’m armed with a cheeky  glass of coke I craved it tonight, some chocolate and the radio on. Lights are low and I’m ready to go!! I wrote the last word, in the last chapter in the last paragraph of July’s new release…  it’s in my editor’s inbox. Let’s get this show on the road for July!

With love,

Kim

I’ve signed up to #NaNoWriMo. Can I write 25,000 words in July & complete book #3 of my Romance Set In Paradise series?? #amwriting #romancenovels

nwm.pngThank you fellow author Kristina Stanley for posting her sign up! You reminded me about Camp NANOWRIMO (that’s national novel writing month). I joined in last year also. This is my second time. If you’re an author/ writer will you also sign up? And try to pen a short novella or finish off your current one in July?

Book #2 is released in July. My goal is to write book #3 of my Romance Set in Paradise Series  In July. I cooked up my idea for the story over the weekend, something just came to me for the next stand along story.  I noted it down in my notebook as always and thought I’ll come back to this story for book #3. As the Romance Series is short novella length books, my goal is about 25,000 words max to write in July. Could be less but around  25,000 that is a good length for short stories. (if you’re a novel writer) this seems short!

Good luck if you join in. Leave me a comment if you do, I’d love to connect with fellow participants again this year.

What’s Going On?…. #amwriting #writerslife

No, I don’t mean the lyrics to Marvin Gaye’s classic song I mean with me? I know, I know  it has been a while since I’ve logged into WordPress, but here I am. Firstly thank you and welcome to all new followers… I see you, thanks for keeping me company.

Well, it is freezing here in London, but I’ve done enough running up and down  this week to keep warm(ish). Last week my book tour for A Stranger in France kicked off, and I’ve done a couple of interviews as part of the tour. There’s also a  giveaway on Goodreads too. I will blog the interview links this week coming, when they are published. They were fun to do.

Friday night, I did a  once over/last minute edits  on my next book published next week I believe it will be, or the latest the week after (Not Just for Christmas). You can, read the first  2.5 chapters for free by clicking here. It’s a feel good romantic novella set in my home town London. Two characters that oppose each other wind up  in love, set on the back drop of Christmas- very heartwarming. I hope you enjoy. I will of course let you know the exact date it will drop on Amazon.

The short story I’ve wrote for a serial novel, along side nineteen other authors, to feature in a book called  Code Redhead, is complete. I enjoyed writing that story, it’s a bit of a erotic romance story I guess, a little steamy. I called it One Night in London. You can find out more about that writing project by clicking here. The book will be published in February 2017.

My progress with Novel Writing Month started if you read that blog. The challenge is two chapters per week from next week as a goal to complete. I have agreed a date to submit my work to a publisher who requested to see the full manuscript. I’m super proud of myself and excited, to have a positive response after they read the first three chapters. I need to get my ass into gear though. I will also post a chapter preview of this third book, a romantic thriller soon. This is my current focus writing wise.

Personally, last week I made some life changing decisions. I’m a full- time working mum, my son turns three next week, and to be honest I think life will be more manageable if I worked part- time. Don’t take this as I’m rolling in money far from it, but I weighed up a few things. Any woman out there who is a mum knows what I am talking about, when I say I’d love more time with my boy and a better work life balance. On top of this I have a number of personal reasons that part-time working would be better for us. So I put in a request to my boss  to reduce my working hours late last night. I mulled over my decisions and e-mail to the boss after doing the maths. After  a bottle of red wine ( yes a bottle!)  I am convinced this is the way forward. On the flip side, it  means more time to write! And purse my real dream, as well as things working out for the better of my family. I hope he sees my points and allows the reduction.

So that’s why I have been absent, I’ve been writing, doing some interviews, working my ass off in the day job, and trying to keep warm.  I will be back next week with some writing prompts and short stories. I have withdrawal symptoms LOL,  it’s been a week since I’ve participated.

I hope everyone had a lovely weekend, and you’re  refreshed ready for the new working week.

Enjoy the last few hours of Sunday.

National Novel Writing Month- I’ve Signed Up… Umm Humm #amwriting #nanowrimo

Last week I found out about NNWM or nanowrimo via another blogger. I just got around to checking out their website. I’ve done it, I signed up just now. Since I have a personal goal to write sixteen chapters in about eight weeks,  by the end of December.  (I’ve completed three of sixteen already, to be fair), I thought what the hell, let’s give it a go. I may as well sign up with millions of other writers around the world, and see if I can pen 50,000 words in the month of November. I’m crazy!  But rather up for the challenge and motivated by what I’m writing. I feel fully engaged, here goes.

I just updated my word count on NNWM, based on their assumption I started writing on the 1st November and  I have just over 7,000 words down,  they calculated  just over 1,000 words  a day I’ve wrote on average, over the seven days of November. According to NNWM’s stats  with this figure, this means I will finish by the 18th December. I can live with that, to be honest as long as I’m done by the end of 2016,  I can use January 2017 for submission prep I don’t mind. It would be amazing if I actually completed it (all), in the next twenty four days…. I have a rough word count of about 50-65K in mind. Again according to the stats that came back from NNWM, if I write just 1,700 words a day for the next twenty four days I’d complete 50,000 by the end of November. Ummm humm sounds good.

Who has  signed up? Or is thinking of  it? Let me know. Need a writing buddy??

November’s Writing Goals.

Write 16 Chapters in 8 Weeks Can I do It?- Meeting Publisher’s Deadlines #amwriting #romance #thriller #2017

Clock

By now you all know about the romantic thriller I’ve had in mind for the last year, well I’m working on it full time now.  I have agreed to submit the full manuscript to a new publisher for January 2017! They have seen the first three chapters and want more :). Silly me, I’ve not got very far  as I’ve been too busy working on the final for Not Just for Christmas (done),and my short story for the charity book Code Red (done).

When I sent out my work on query to two publishers, I never expected to hear back so soon from either of them. Now, I need to write write write! It’s a good thing the month of November is the month of Nanowrimo – writers try to pen 50,000 words- in a month. Personally I’ve never tried but here goes. I’m on it now I am free to focus on it. The goal for Nanowrimo for me  is two chapters per week, from next week for the next eight weeks. That will leave the month of January, for editing and proof reading and submission. I’m so looking forward to writing this story  to share with you all, if all goes well once the publisher has seen the full story.

Wish me luck! And have a great week.
