MiracleChallenge Week 5: #4 Negative Thoughts

REBLOGGING MY OLD FAVOURITES I ENJOYED WRITING 🙂

Writing Prompt

Write a story /poem using the prompt theme ” Negative Thoughts”

Never meant  to hurt anyone or to  start  that fire it just happened, a call for help rather than a malicious act of unkindness. If I’d known it would have hurt others I would never have done it.  I wasn’t in the right state of mind. I sit here in my room on my bed, head down rocking back and fourth, for 10 years  I’ve been detained under the Mental Health Act 1983 for a crime I did while not in the right frame of mind, plagued with negative thoughts.

Each year that passes, I think this year is the year they’ll release me. I can move on with my life. Instead they shuffle their papers and stare at me like a science project ,through the window. I’m watched observed day and night.

Grief , misery, loneliness and regret are my daily thoughts and feelings. I grieve over the lives I claimed with my actions it wasn’t me it was the negative voices, I’m miserable as my life for 10 years has been within the confinement of these 4 walls, I’m lonely as no one thinks to come and visit me, and I regret that I did not speak up sooner and say I hear  negative voices within me, I regret my

Actions from all those years ago. My community no longer see me as one of them, this is a small town and word gets around, they whisper in the shadows about me my name is folk law around these parts.

Time is a great healer they say, I’m not healed,  I don’t think that I ever will be. Not until these negative voices leave me. Why did I do it? What were you thinking ?  The police questioned me for hours. As I stood on the stand in court charged with murder and arson the jury looked at me closely debating  -am I am murderer? Or just a girl disturbed.

I had  a father, mother  and 2 brothers I was the eldest of 3.

Very rarely did anyone stop to think, is she OK? Does she feel in the right state of mind today? Has she heard those voices again today?

Each year these voices would plague me.

Talking to me , tell me to do things, make me believe that people were after me. The negative thoughts were always on replay in my mind; before the fire, before my outburst.

How could they miss the signs that my mental state was slowing on a steady road to decline. I never did drugs if that’s what you’re thinking, I never drunk alcohol if that’s what you’re thinking.  I left that to my father and constantly depressed mother.

One hot summers day, I was out in the yard sitting under the large oak tree, the voices started talking to me; I watched my father in the yard sweating and grunting chopping up wood. As his swigged his beer and looked over at me

Ugly voices told me, ” get him before he gets you” ” get him before he puts his grubby hands on you again”.  Negative thoughts ran through my  mind as I watched him closely with a smirk on my face. He  yelled up at the open window to my mother ” get your ass out of bed you good for nothing women.”Mama was always sad, always needed to lay down I couldn’t understand at the time I was only 16.

Going back over the events of that day , the day I burned down that house with my family inside I rock, back and forth my arms wrapped around myself. The nurse walks past, every 15 minutes.

How are you today” they say to me every day, ” I’m fine” and I rock, I sway. I count down another day… how many until my release day? Criminally insane they labelled me I guess I will never get to see my release day.

Tomorrow is another day, I rock, sway and I prey for all these negative thoughts to go away just for one day.  Day in day out there is no pause button this is my reality every day as the

Seasons pass me, spring, summer, autumn and winter. Years pass me but these negative thoughts never seem to leave me.

**My gosh! This challenge was tough I really did not know which way to go with this one thanks MiracleGirl for another writing work out !**

Writing Prompt: A Tiny Story- Crime Thrill & Suspense! #amwriting

TO GET YOU IN THE MOOD FOR THE CHALLENGE THAT DIDI AND I ARE DOING.. REBLOG OF MY FAV CHALLENGES!

Gabriel clenched his teeth feeling the porcelain slide. He took a deep breath, relaxed his jaw. “You have two choices,” he said, “you can leave on your feet or on a gurney…” (Continue to write about who Gabriel is and who he is talking to.)Female-Private-Investigators-Eliza-0614333632_1

Gabriel looks Sanchez in the eye he waits for his response. He is losing his patience with this no good snitch. Gabriel pulls back the trigger on his gun and steps forward, pushing his face in front of Sanchez. The two men square up. At six-foot-two, Gabriel towers over Sanchez’s five-foot-ten height.

“I’ll say it one more time for you Sanchez, just in case you never heard me correct.”

“Who the f*ck ratted out on me? If it wasn’t you then who?”

Placing the gun to the right- hand side of Sanchez’s temple, he continues.

“You can leave on your feet, or on a gurney Sanchez. Now who the f*ck—“

“All right, all right, like I said it wasn’t me Gabriel, you know I’d never do that”

“Keep talking Sanchez.”

“I was over at the bar yesterday, I heard whispers that Don wants to settle an old score with you.”

“What bar?”

“The Nag’s Head— Over in Camden Town.”

“So you’re saying Don O’Conner ratted me out to the poe-poe, as he has an old score to settle—right?”

“Right, it could have been him.”

Gabriel lowers his gun and takes a step back from Sanchez. He looks him up and down. A fully-grown man tied up to a wooden post in the centre of a south London warehouse. He can’t help but laugh at the sight of Sanchez in nothing but his underpants. He circles him, like a lion about to pounce. Racking his brain over what score Don would want to settle. Then again, Gabriel North has a reputation as one of the most feared men in London, he has made plenty enemies.  He hails originally from Birmingham in the midlands, but moved south after he realised the streets of London really can be paved with gold— the black market is booming down south in London.

“Now why would Don want to rat me out to the police Sanchez?

“He got wind of the deal you made with Joe, from what I heard Don wanted to get in there first— take over that area of London to distribute his goods to.”

Gabriel pauses to take in what Sanchez has said. He has a point, the deal he made with Joe in reality is an invasion on Don’s patch.

“You better not be lying to me Sanchez?”

Gabriel, pokes Sanchez in the chest  with his gun to punctuate his question.

“No sir, that’s what I heard”

“All right, I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt. I want you to head over to the Nag’s Head and find out what else Don’s up to.”

“You want me to inform on him?”

“Yes, and you better be worth the time I’m giving you to do it—I want answers and fast”

Gabriel nods to his henchmen in corner of the dark warehouse, as a signal to un-tie Sanchez. At least he has a starting point. He now knows who ratted him out to the poe-poe.

His next move is to find out exactly what it will take  for Don O’Connor to retract his statement to the police. Be it money, a threat to him and his family or worse death, Gabriel doesn’t care. Don will be the next visitor to his warehouse, as soon as Sanchez informs him of exactly what Don is up to.

To be continued! I actually have to stop writing ( sigh)  the phone rang-I have visitors on the way to see us today. So I guess I better start the housework and change out of my pyjamas. I’ll be back.

MiracleChallenge week #9: #1”Everyone has a dark side” short story continued….

TO GET YOU IN THE MOOD FOR MINE AND DID’S CHALLENGE RE-BLOGGING SOME OF MY FAV WRITING PROMPTS. 🙂

It’s Tuessssssssday yeah! That can can only mean Miracle Girl’s writing challenge is up and Kim’s in the hot seat in the kitchen ready to go.  For week #9’s writing prompt challenge, I’ll continue the short story I wrote  way back for  the challenge she set for week #4. The word prompt Miracle gave us for week #4  was ”everyone has a dark-side, he doesn’t show his.”If you’ve not read the start of the story for that week’s challenge click here. Below is my  continued story for week #9 using this week’s word prompts.

Write a short story using the prompt sentence : ” Truth or dare” he asked

The sight of blood on my left breast put me in a state of total shock .I  remember I looked at this freak of a guy who I loved so much, and wondered exactly what he meant  by ”the freaks come out at night.” For a full thirty seconds we stared at each other, looking deeply into each other’s souls asking questions with our eyes. The air  was still and misty with our hot breath, as it met the cold night air.  He broke the silence first, ”it’s Halloween, lighten up!” he was all smiles as if nothing happened.

”Are you crazy? Do you know what you just did?, You bit me Stephen.” My voice came out like a high pitched squeak. ” C’mon Jade, I know you like it rough I was just playing.” I raised my eyebrows at him. “Rough? Stephen there’s rough and there’s rooouuuugh and that is not my thing.” I turned my back and started to walk away, I was cold my Halloween costume did nothing to shield me from the cold night air,  I wrapped my cape around me and head back inside. I glanced over my shoulder at Stephen, he stood with his back turned to me looking up at the moon. Crazy ass mother ****** is all I could think, but I loved that man he was my crazy ass.

As I entered the party,I was glad for the warmth and normality of loud music and people having a good time. I’d been seeing Stephen for almost a year, I liked him … a lot, but something was a little off with him. He had a dark side, I knew it, I could feel it and tonight he definitely showed it.

”Hey, where have you been?” Jess ,my best friend grabbed me by my cape as I walked passed the kitchen on my way to the bathroom, to check out my bite mark. I covered myself so the wound was not exposed. Jess pulled me to one side and offered me her drink. I took a swig and winced. “You’re missing truth or dare come and join us.” ”Um, I’m just ganna head  to the bathroom and I’ll come join you in a second.” Jess eyed me suspiciously, ”Where’s Stephen?” Good point my inner voiced screamed.”Outside still, having a smoke he be in, in a moment, Jess I’ll be right back.” I dashed off the the bathroom to inspect my left breast.

Five minutes later, after I stemmed the blood flow, I entered the living room. Everyone was gathered in a circle with a bottle in the middle ,  a tell tell sign of truth or dare. The bottle had landed on Cece.

” Truth or dare ?  he (Morgan) asked  Cece with a devilish smile on his face, ”truth”  Cece responded flicking her long bone straight raven black hair over her  shoulder, she’s pretty all the senior boys in college  liked her, her exotic appearance made them lust after her – caramel skin and delicate features, she stood at 5’11. I was always envious of her height matched against my 5’5 height.

” OK who would you rather Stephen or Samuel?” Morgan said boldly and took a long sip of his drink.  Cece blushed  and stared at the ceiling a smile played on the edge of her lips. ” Oh my God Morgan are you serious ? Really? What kind of a question is that they are both my ex-boyfriends and in the room.” Morgan threw his head back and laughed, “Yeah that’s the point!”  Cece bit her lip and looked around,  for added drama in true Cece fashion she licked her lips and raised her eyebrows  as she looked over at Stephen stood in the corner. ” Stephen, of course, he has a wild side no girl can resist.”

I move from the door way and  strut into the room, right on que my four inch heels clicking against the wood floor. I dramatically  opened up my cape so my full sexy vampire costume was on show, my  fishnet stockings, suspenders, red corset and heels all on show. I walked over the Stephen  with a dramatic sway in my hips and draped myself over him for everyone to see. Cece looks me up and down, from my four inch heels to the top of my red hair, I pout at her ” anit that the truth Cece?” I stared back at her giving her the hands off my man look every girl knows the code for. Inside I laughed, as she cut her eye at me and folded her arms across her chest.

As the game continued and the bottle was spun again,Stephen took me in his arms and kissed me. ” Let’s go, I wanna play our own little game do you?” ” What kind of game?” I smile naughtily at him remembering the chains, whips and duct tape I kept asking him about at his place.   ” How about  truth or dare, ?”  he asked. he winked at me…. ” Back at my place.”

MiracleChallenge Week 4: #1 – Dark Side

TO GET YOU IN THE MOOD FOR MINE AND DID’S CHALLENGE RE-BLOGGING SOME OF MY OLD FAV WRITING PROMPTS.

#MiracleChallenge writing prompt for this week!

Write a short story using the below sentence prompt

Everyone has a dark side which he never shows to anybody”: short story

Everyone has a dark side so they say, we met some years back, it was the spring of 2009 back in my  first year of college.  I thought meeting him would be the start of something new, just like spring when flowers bloom. We got to know each other slowly,  he was  like a breath of fresh air at first just want I needed, dinner, movies, concerts we had a great time. By the  summer of 2009 I was convinced it was love! By October as the season turned  to autumn so did he, he turned, his dark side came out no more Mr Nice Guy.

It was just little things at first I noticed were weird about him, his fascination with death and dying, being immortal which he somehow thought he was. ” What a joker” I’d say to him ” you’re weird mate, no one is immortal, no one lives forever.”

He’d  always want to go to the cemetery just ” for a walk” he’d say, who the hell goes to the cemetery ” just for a walk” ?  Ropes,  chains and duck tape started to appear around his home, when I’d go over on a weekend and ask him what they were for, he’d laugh it off and say he was just doing some DIY around the house. I thought nothing of it, bought the story after all he’s a man they do DIY all the time don’t they…  Is that normal ropes, duck tape, chains and all sorts? I wouldn’t  have  minded at all  if it was some kind of kinky sex game he wanted to try out with the ropes and tape, hey, I read 50 Shades of Grey- Mr Grey is H.O.T, he could tie me up anytime if that was is thang.  I’d tease him, ask him when he was ganna  tie me up and make love to me? He’d just look at me with a sinister look in his eye and a smirk on his face- not  a look that said he’d tie me up and show me a good time. Still, I brushed it off as nothing, he was perfect we were in love … remember.

As October progressed Halloween rolled around  we were at a friend’s party we dressed up as vampires with matching teeth and fake blood. I must admit he looked pretty hot, think of Eric from True Blood, my spine tingles at the thought of how good he looked, slick hair, pale skinned, dark eyes, black suit and tie,  sinister. Me I went all out with my stockings and suspenders, 4 inch heals  and corset  under a cape fake bite marks all up my thighs  I made a very sexy vampire, we were the centre of attention when it came to costumes.

Something strange happened, at midnight we went outside for some fresh air  and a smoke, as I lit my cigarette   he looked up at the sky and said in low tones ” it’s a full moon” he let out some kind of growl too.  I said to myself this guy he has a dark side. My mind went back to the ropes, chains and duck tape, now he was growling  at the fucking moon? What was this??

He grabbed me, bit me  hard on my  left breast, hard enough to draw blood I screamed out loud ” what the hell are you doing you werido?”   I pushed him off and took a step back. The night air was so cold I could see his breath in the air and the heavy rise and fall of his chest.  He looked me dead in the eye and said

” The freaks come out at night” he laughed as he licked my blood from his lips. I looked down at my breast and the mark that remained from his bite.

That’s when I said to myself this guy’s weird everyone has a dark side, (which) he doesn’t show to anyone.

Writing Prompt: Write a Short Story Using Four L Words- Lipstick, Lust, Loss and Locked…

Lipstick story TO GET YOU IN THE MOOD FOR MINE AND DID’S CHALLENGE RE-BLOGGING MY OLD FAV WRITING PROMPT.

Writing Prompt: Write a short story using four L words Lipstick, Lust, Loss and Locked.

I came across this writing prompt in the same book I did my Private investigator  writing prompt from. This short story continues on from the  private investigator, now we hear from Mr X’s other women she kept a diary. If you’ve not read the private investigator short story you can here so you know the back story. Just for fun I decided to link up these 2 writing challenges.

Dear Diary,

I never should have  went there, I know but it’s too late now we’ve been caught. Mr X’s wife tagged him with a private investigator can you believe that?  We were so careful where we met, what time we met and how often we left the office together.

We  started out as just a bit of fun, every boss messes around with their secretary right? No harm done, as long as no one finds out. Just our secret we kept locked away.  Looking back, at times I’ve felt bad for his wife, the poor thing stuck at home with the two small boys all day, unaware that her husband has a fetish for lipstick , high heels and lingerie-  on girls 10 years younger than him.

“Come to daddy” he’d say, his eyes lusting for me as soon as I step out of my  figure hugging dress, revealing just my Victoria Secret’s lace lingerie set, stockings and four inch Louboutian heels. The red soles of my four inch heels  always turned him on, just like my lipstick. Red is  his favourite shade. He likes the full on glamorous and  made up look.

Everyday for the past 6 months I’d catch him eyeing me from head to toe through his glass window from behind his desk. His eyes were always full of lust as  I threw back  my head of blonde curls and licked my blood red lips.

He’d wink at me, I’d blow him a kiss while no one was looking, we both knew the code that meant it was on! By lunch time he’d be so hot under the collar he’d call me into his office and make sure the door was locked. It was our little  secret, his wife’s loss   was my gain totally, Mr X was wild behind closed doors. He loved  the thrill of getting caught bending his secretary over his office desk, it excited him. That man was  like a dog on heat.

Silly me, I was the other women and now his wife knows, some private investigator called Kim  something or another managed to gather all the evidence she needed and served us up on a plate  to his wife- the b*ch I could kill her with my bare hands, talk about spoil a girl’s fun! Still it was fun while it lasted. My secret I’ll keep locked away.

Crime Writing Prompt Short Story: The Stick up

Set_it_off_poster

W One of my favourite movies of all time female bank robbers!

Bank

TO GET YOU IN THE MOOD FOR MINE AND DID’S  CHALLENGE I’M RE-BLOGGING A FEW OF MY FAV WRITING PROMPTS 🙂

You’re a customer laying face down on the floor during a bank robbery. Describe the robbery from this view point.

“All right, nobody move everyone down on the floor.”

I’m standing in line almost next to be served at the local bank on the high street, I  turn around at the sound of male voices yelling and commotion at the door, did I just hear right? My God. Yes I did it’s Monday morning I came in  to pay an overdue bill now I’m in the middle of a stick up, three masked men waving  guns at me …. and my baby boy! Are behind me. I watch everyone behind me in the line drop like flies, and customers start to scream and plead for their lives

” That includes you lady, get down you and the boy!” ”OK, cool I heard you just don’t shoot all right I have my son with me.” The words fly out my mouth before I have a chance to think what I’m doing, I’m arguing with a man with a gun! Kim, be cool.  ”Mama, ha ha!” I hear my baby boy start to laugh as he thinks it’s a game, in slow motion I watch him run toward the three  men at the door waving their guns. ”Get back here”  I grab my baby boy’s hand  and cover his eyes, he starts to cry and yell we get down on the floor slowly. I hold on to him  tight and try to calm him down he’s shouting and screaming. ”Keep the kid calm, and nobody gets hurt.”  I bite my lip and  cut my eye  at this ass hole, and in my mind start to pray they get the money and get the hell out.

Laying here on the dirty grey carpet of the bank , I turn to the left and right slowly and calmly I watch everyone around me freeze, I make eye contact with an elderly lady in her 60s and I think of my own mama. I want to reach out to her and bring her close to my baby boy and me,  I can see the terror in her eyes.

” Hey, lady I said get down, don’t look up and don’t move the old girl’s fine.”  Me like  a fool I look straight up at the masked man pointing a gun at me and back at the elderly lady and offer her a nervous smile. I cuddle my baby boy closer and cut my eye again at the masked man. Lord, I know I’m not the most religious person out there and I know I don’t go to church and I hope you don’t think I only turn to you when I’m in trouble, but please keep us safe. In my mind I pray… hard.

From the corner of my eye to the left I see one of the three men run up to the counter and put his gun in the young pretty cashier’s face, she throws her hands up higher and screams. I look to the right  while the other two walk around the customers lying on the floor making sure no one moves a muscle. Waving their guns around trying to breathe fear into everyone- it’s working. I hear sobbing, small cries, coming from a lady behind me. I glance around she looks about my age in a smart suit and an engagement ring on her left hand. The poor thing, she’s probably thinking she’ll never make it to the alter.

” Hey, lady you wanna get outta here alive today or what?”

I turn around quickly facing the front and put my head on the floor.

“Mama, I wanna go now” ” Ok, son, we be gone soon it’s just a short game it be over soon and-” ” But mama!”

“Shut the kid up!”

“Sorry he’s only two what do you expect!” There I go again, that smart mouth with no filter my own mama said would get me into trouble. In slow motion I watch one of the masked men walk up to me, he comes close I tighten my grip on my son and meet his eye trying to show no fear I need to show my boy it’s OK. He leans down close to my face , lifts me by the scuff of my dress and shouts at me.

“Keep the kid calm, no one gets hurt.” He drops me like a hot cake and   walks back over to the counter.

“Mama-” “Shhh baby.”

” Fill up the bag, quick, c’mon c’mon b*tch what’s taking so long and don’t even think about pressing any alarms or you’re toast you hear me?”

”All right, OK OK just please don’t hurt me.” I watch the cashier’s face turn bright pink and she breaks out in a visible sweat as she slowly opens her draw, and starts to fill up the masked man’s black bag with money.

” Hurry up!” ” We aint got all day!”

I turn to my right and follow the voice demanding the cashier hurry up, it’s one of the two watchmen he’s nervous, I can tell  by the way he is hopping from foot to foot bouncing around looking left and right, like a startled rabbit caught in a head light.

“B*tch I said move, get that money and fill up the bag hurry!”

” Hey, hey I said don’t move!”

Bang

I wrap my baby boy up tighter in my arms and watch one of the two watchmen move closer to the counter from my left, as he shoots at the screen at the man behind, the man ducks. It’s bullet  proof and the stray bullet hit the glass and fires back at him- dumb ass does he not realise that this is not the movies, glass in a real bank is toughened ready for jerks like him. I watch the bullet backfire and hit him in the left shoulder.

”C’mon we gatta go, Sean’s been hit let’s go let’s go!” ” I turn back to my left raising my head slightly, and watch the nervous second watchmen bounce around and wave his gun in the air gesturing to his accomplice at the counter to hurry up.

”Wait, one more bag- b*tch move, get the money!”

The pretty cashier starts to cry and sob.

“The masked man at the counter turns his attention to the male cashier his accomplice fired at. “And you, get out here and on the floor did you press the button? Did you call the poe-poe on us?”

Bang

Another shot this time from the masked man at the counter, aiming for the male cashier accused of raising the alarm, he misses thank God. The cashier ducked again and ran out the back.

“I’m bleeding man we got to go! This is DNA everywhere we’ll get caught for sure!”

“Ah s*it, let’s go man, he’s right.”

I turn back around to my left and watch as both watchmen start to worry and panic, waving their guns and looking over their shoulders in a worried state. In the background I hear sirens coming.

“What, What no way man ahh no way.” The masked man at the counter grabs the two black bags of money and heads towards the door, I watch him pass me, he trips and falls he never saw my son’s toy car lying on the floor.

“Ha ha mama- car look.”  I cover my baby boy’s mouth and look up at the masked man scrambling to his feet, his two accomplices are already half way to the door and the sirens are near. Too late the poe- poe are here!  I’m too scared to turn around toward the exit but I do I risk it, and I see  two London Metropolitan police cars and a van pull up outside the bank. More than 10 police officers jump out.

” Hands up, don’t move put your guns on the floor” I hear one of the male officers shout in a deep booming voice. I pray there’s not a shoot between the poe-poe and the villains, I want them caught but I don’t agree with police bearing arms and shooting- no matter the race of the villains or what they’ve done.

“What we ganna do now! Man?”  Masked man one looks around at the other two.

“I’m bleeding like crazy, we got to get out of here!” Masked man two I watch clutch his left arm trying to stem the bleeding. It is not working, blood is all over the dirty grey carpet where he was stood keeping watch.

“Head out the back.” The third masked man and clear ring leader instructed.

All three masked men U-turn and run pass me and all the bank customers still lying face down on the floor. I raise my head and watch them  jump over the counter- black bags in hand of course. One of them even has the cheek to stop and grab some more money. The officers run in waving their way around the bodies on the floor and head out the back. Guns to the ready and I pray some more.

“Hands up, there’s no where to run boys, this is it game over! ” The deep male voice boomed again.

I hear the sound of guns  drop on the floor and hand cuffs firmly being placed on. I raise my head slightly and watch the three masked men being led out by the police and into the awaiting police van.

“All right, everyone up please, is anyone injured do we need an ambulance?”

So much for a quiet start to the week for me.

There’s No Denying it…

Denial

Today’s WordPress writing prompt is “denial”. Well there is no denying the attraction building between Detective Sebastian Garcia and Melinda Jones. Here is  excerpt  #2 from Havana Heat! The attraction is there, there is no denying it.

As Melinda looks up and down the street and glances up at the busy balconies of the apartments she relaxes and enjoys the new culture she’s been exposed to.

“Which way from here Sebastian?”

“Ah, I’m not a hundred percent sure… let’s head this way.”

Sebastian points in a direction away from the hotel.

“You don’t know where the beach is?”

“Melinda relax, we’ll find it.”

The pair smile at each other and lower their sunglasses as they set off in the opposite direction of their hotel Casa De Amour. As Melinda and Sebastian walk along the busy street the pair are lead away from the residential area, into a lively hub of bars and restaurants. The bars and restaurants are busy with couples and groups of friends dining outside in the late afternoon sun. Salsa music floats out onto the pavement from every bar and restaurant they pass.  The atmosphere along the strip is buzzing. Melinda turns and looks up at Sebastian.

“Wow, this area looks like a melting pot of fun!”

“It sure does, what do you say we skip the beach and head into one of these bars for a dance.”

“Dance? Are you serious?”

“Why not, you scared of your two left feet.”

Melinda playfully slaps Sebastian on the arm.

“I am not, and who says I have two left feet? I could probably dance you off the dance floor.”

“Yeah? You better prove it then.”

Sebastian grabs Melinda’s hand and leads her into the next bar they pass. The bar is buzzing with Cubans sitting outside smoking cigars and drinking local Cuban beer. The barman greets the couple as they tumble in, in a fit of giggles.

“Hola”

“Hola señor, dos de sus mejores cervezas cubanas por favor y un puro también.”

Sebastian replies in rapid Spanish ordering two beers and a Cuban cigar. He glances around the busy bar, and then smiles as he spies a mini dancefloor with a couple dancing to salsa.

The bar has traditional Cuban décor with pale orange walls and brown wooden beams exposed on the ceiling. A high raised dark wood bar and matching wood bar stools are to the left of the main bar as the pair enter, behind it is a well- stocked shelf with a selection of spirits and glasses. To the right of the bar the wall is painted with a sketch of curvy Latina lady, in a revealing bright red carnival outfit. Salsa music rings out of the boom box in the corner. Above it is a large screen TV on mute showing the latest soccer match. The male drinkers in the bar glance up at the screen every now and then, shouting comments at the soccer players in Spanish, and waving their cigars around in frustration at the game.  Couples laugh and joke oblivious to the game playing out on the TV. Small groups of male and female friends gather around tables filled with Tequila shot glasses and chips enjoying each other’s company.  Melinda and Sebastian feel welcome as foreigners and safe in the downtown Havana drinking spot, Casa De Amigos located on a busy strip section of the strip.

Sebastian leads Melinda over to a table with a good view of the dance floor. The couple settle themselves around the small table. Melinda opens their conversation as she studies Sebastian’s profile. He’s busy watching the action on the dancefloor as the Cuban couple salsa with ease and style.

“Wow Sebastian you speak Spanish?”

Without taking his eyes off the couple on the dance floor Sebastian responds.

“Sure do … I am Spanish after all.”

“Double wow, what part are you from?”

“Madrid.”

“Interesting.”

Sebastian blesses Melinda with a wide smile.

“Have you ever been to Spain before?”

“Many years ago, yes. I went to Barcelona it’s a really vibrant city. I remember walking down the ramblers and the market area. Busy is not the word!”

“Ah Barcelona I do enjoy the city too.”

“I also watched a bull fight, that was an experience. Not sure one I want to repeat but it was an experience.”

Sebastian lets out high pitched laugh.

“Bull fighting, hmm I agree even as a Spaniard I can’t say it’s my thing either.”

Sebastian relaxes physically in his chair as the waiter comes over, then places two cool large beers on the table along with his Cuban cigar. Sebastian looks up at Melinda now watching the couple dance.

“You don’t mind do you Melinda?”

Sebastian points to his cigar he’s about to light.

“Oh, no not at all, it’s fine.”

The pair sit nursing their cool beers, a welcome refreshment from the dry heat floating in from the open front bar. Three beers, and two Tequila shots later Melinda and Sebastian are dancing the late afternoon away with the other couples on the small crowded dance floor. As the beat slows down from the last song the pair separate and look at each other both damp with perspiration. The bar’s lack of air- conditioning does not have the same effect on the locals on the dance floor with them, fully accustomed to the humid Havana heat. Catching her breath and wiping her damp face with a napkin Melinda looks up at Sebastian as he orders two more beers and Tequila shots in Spanish.

“See I told you I don’t have two left feet.”

“Melinda, you’re right I’ll give props where they are due you can move and have good rhythm.” Melinda looks up at Sebastian just as he pushes her away and twirls her around.

“Woah! Easy Mr. I don’t want to end up on my ass on the floor.”

“Don’t worry I’ve got you … and your ass for that matter.”

With a cheeky smile Sebastian pulls Melinda back in toward him, his hands slide down the side of her curves and he pulls her closer to him from her waist. Without a second thought Melinda leans in and kisses him lightly on the lips. Sebastian hesitates to return her passion but gives in. Dr Black’s voice rings out in his mind “find yourself a holiday romance, have fun just don’t think about work or London.” Sebastian’s inner voice is a trigger for him to overcome his guilt of kissing another woman so close to his late girlfriend’s death. He leans in and responds to Melinda’s kiss with an equal amount of passion. Held in a tight embrace the pair passionately kiss, the attraction and passion between them is building and neither can deny it.... TO BE CONTINUED!
