Meet The Author

Luke Murphy is the International bestselling author of two series. The Calvin Watters Mysteries: Dead Man’s Hand (2012) and Wild Card (2017). The Charlene Taylor Mysteries: Kiss & Tell (2015) and Rock-A-Bye Baby (2019).

Murphy played six years of professional hockey before retiring in 2006.

His sports column, “Overtime” (Pontiac Equity), was nominated for the 2007 Best Sports Page in Quebec, and won the award in 2009. He has also worked as a radio journalist (CHIPFM 101.7).

Murphy lives in Shawville, QC with his wife and three daughters. He is a teacher who holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing, and a Bachelor of Education (Magna Cum Laude).

Red Zone is Murphy’s fifth novel.

Book Boyfriend/ Romance Author #1 : What d’ya Know About Author Asar? #BlackAuthorsMatter #amreading #romance

AsarHappy Sunday! Let’s get to know Author Asar, the first of our Book Boyfriends and  male Romance Authors of colour .  I have found that this author’s book covers really do speak to me, from what I’ve seen on Facebook he has some wonderful designs. Author Asar is signed to the publishing label Major Key, he has around seventeen books published in the romance genre, from a quick glance at his Amazon page That’s a LOT of books to discover!

Asar is a graduate of Gwynedd-Mercy University with a Bachelors degree in Psychology. A lover of art, he has been writing since high school with the support of his family. Living in Philly, he works with children with autism as well as working for the Free Library of Philadelphia.

I recommend that all romance lovers give Author Asar a try, I certainly will be.  His book cover’s give off a pure love and sensuality vibe. Not only that he comes across as a man with a tender side for sure, judging by his Facebook posts he often posts while he’s in the middle of a writing sprint. He also shares a lot of the time  very positive and loving posts about women (cue the hugs and kisses for Asar). Some of his posts also have a very spiritual and uplifting feel to them. On the 23rd June he released a new romance called, ‘When Love Comes Down’. It has a five star review on and could be worth a look into as well.  This was a cover that caught my eye on Facebook last month.

Born June 30, 1981 in Lafayette, Louisiana to Lenora J. Wilson and Allen Joseph, raised in Crowley, Louisiana. Over 20 years he has been writing poetry and recently published his first book, The Heart of a Man Behind The Walls. Now he has published his second book, part 2 to the first book he wrote.

I must say this is a very interesting group of authors to get to know, we’ll have book giveaways, fun facts, learn a bit about what they’ve published and a chance to visit the pages of a book they wish to share with us.

It’s important to remember that male authors need to be heard, in particular male authors who identify as a man of colour, regardless of his descent. In the lit world sadly these voices are sometimes shaded and overlooked.  It’s also important to remember, while urban and street lit genres have a massive market and readership, this is not all male authors of colour can and do write. You’ll see this hopefully as we move through the genres. Personally, I’m looking very forward to this genre as a romance author  and massive reader myself, I love male romance authors! I have read a few and really enjoyed the male POV on love and life. I’m also massive non-fiction reader, and poetry is just so special! It’s going to be an exciting week.

So in honour of #BlackLivesMatter , #BlackLivesMatterUK and #BlackAuthorsMatter let’s elevate, lift and express some interest in male authors of colour. Tomorrow we will kick off with author #1 and #2, then each day as we move through July, continue through the genres of this live up of thirty men I have for you to get to know.

Street Lit King #4: Fun Facts +Next Release By Travis Yancey, Urban Fiction, Mixed With Thriller and Suspense Author!

received_593464951568008All right last  but by no means least our fourth Street Lit King, and male author of colour this week is Travis Yancey! Look at this beautiful picture of him and his daughter. I crossed paths with this author a while back,  I have downloaded his book I did start to read the first chapter and was drawn in. Travis from what I know of is someone who is very real, judging by his Facebook posts he really does say it how it is! Get to know him. His  debut novel crosses genres urban/street lit into the crime thriller and suspense genre, with mafia involvement across the Atlantic!

I would recommend that anyone who enjoys suspense, thrill and futuristic vibes in their reading to check him out. So far he has published just this one book I’m aware of, but I am sure there will be more in the pipeline. His book has a wonderful review on and I’m sure he would welcome more readers and reviews!

I love writing books that mix the urban culture with a mainstream suspense feel. Some of my books have a futuristic approach also, using a “modern society” such as my up and coming book called “Galaxy Goonz.” Where two African American brothers came up in the year 2999 selling lazers and what’s called “Phlang”( modern day heroin). The two brothers became crypto billionaires. As it is told one of the brothers commits murder when he walks in on his wife, having a affair in their mansion. He’s  sentenced to 100 years ON THE SUN…it is up to his twin brother to help break him free, before he is sentenced! The brothers go from planet to planet, creating chaos in the Galaxy as the brothers strive to stay free and alive while on the run!

Street Lit King #3: What’d You Know About Chris Green?

Enter Street Lit King #3 and a new male author of colour to get to know,  let’s get to know Author Chris Green. Have you ever had book covers just call you? That’s how I crossed paths with Chris, it was actually a fellow author of his signed to the same label Lock Down Publications who shared his cover, and I was like ‘I need to take a closer look at this, where is the book’s blurb?’ Chris is a well known and highly celebrated author in the urban and street lit genre, judging by his Facebook fan page interaction. He also can be rather funny in his posts too!  He’s an author who is well versed in writing about urban and street life, but I get the feeling he can have a softer side to him also, from some of his Facebook interaction posts. I’ve not had the chance to interview him, maybe one day I will and find out for myself if my hunch is right.

Chris has published a high number of books if you check his Amazon page, and also has some great reviews.  From what I have been seeing on Facebook it’s his ‘Dope Boy’ series that seems to have his fans, fans of this genre, old and new readers gossiping about his pen! Get to now him.

I loved penning this romantic suspense with a historical twist! I’ve never written a historical romance novel, only a short story, but I love to read this genre so badly it’s unreal LOL.

What I Loved About This Genre…

What I love about it is being transported, from the present day to the relevant era the story is set in. I also love the learning experience, especially if the story is set in a part of the world I know little about. I’ve read some fantastic…no scratch that ahhhhhh-maaay-ziing historical fiction set in Asia. The four books that come to mind all made me cry. Two male authors and one female. I then bought all the books by all the authors. There’s just something about this genre that really does something to me, emotionally as a reader. I get caught up, in love with the time frame and salute historical fiction writers, who write this as their standard ‘bread and butter’ and not just dip in, like me.

My First Experience of Writing Historical Fiction..

As a writer I must say yes I did tear up too, especially when I wrote the scene where I placed my characters at Dr. Martin Luther King’s march for jobs and freedom, in Washington DC, in the 1960s. I also teared up while writing the difficult scenes, as a white male and his views on the friendship and then relationship between my hero and heroine. On the other hand writing as a black male, who also hated this union was tough! Overall, this novel is special to me as 1. I had to write characters and their ‘style’ of love and dating, in a period I was not even born in LOL. 2. I had to step into the shoes of people with a different mind set to me, as a woman and in an era I was not born 3. you know me I like to take readers on a journey around the world! So there was the challenge of writing in London, USA and Greece!! In the present day and the 1950s and 1960s! Overall Sacrifices was a beautiful challenge that pulled on my heart strings at times. I am so in love with the story, as I love the music of this era, the civil right movement on both sides of the Atlantic is close to my heart, I love the characters and how I have brought them alive, and a new spin and voice to this sub-genre of romance. The 1950s and 1960s are not historical eras really used often in romance. Enough editors and publishers who rejected me told me that LOL but you only need one to say ‘gimme that’, and I am so grateful for the publishing house who jumped on my shit!

Street Lit King #2: What’d You Know About Author Dekari? #amreading

DekariAll right, we’re on a roll with getting to know some male authors of colour. This week’s all about ‘Street Lit Kings’, our second one you guys know he’s back! It’s Dekari. I interviewed him earlier this year, check it out here. This was after I read one of his books, and was very pleasantly surprised. I read book #1 of his series Gorillaz in The Bay, check out the review here. Dekari is also another Street Lit King that’s signed to Lock Down Publications label, and is a highly respected and popular author in this genre, judging by his Facebook fan’s interaction with him.

Dekari really is lovely, I’ve kept in contact since we crossed paths randomly. I don’t wanna spoil his street credit as one of the Kings of Street Lit, so I won’t gush LOL or embarrass him. But, in all honesty he’s a nice person,  I’m so glad I met him. He  does a lot for youths and the community too as much as he can, it’s always a pleasure to say ‘hi’.  Do check him out. Here’s a book he’d like to share, all his work is free to read on Kindle Unlimited, and I believe a number of his books are in Walmart if you’re in the USA and like paperbacks. Currently at the time of writing this, Dekari has a shit-load of five star reviews on his work on Amazon.
