Writing Prompt- Cupid’s Arrow Has A Crazy Aim!

So it’s Valentine’s Day (and happy birthday to me too), today’s prompt in my book is ‘write an ode to something or someone you love’, so here goes…

What Do I think about love?

Really good question, personally I do love it but it can be a crazy, scary, and dangerous thing. At the age of thirty-seven I have learned you can’t control who, when, or how you fall in love. That said you should be careful who you give your heart to! Trust me, I know that part well.

Cupid’s Arrow Has A Crazy Aim…

cupid-948407_1280

These days, I feel really good about love as yes, I’m in love again. After a painful break-up I never thought I’d say that again. But I’m  well over that!!  Cupid’s aim is crazy, and feel like maybe this could be my happy ever after.

So how do I feel about love? I now know what real love is, before this I thought I was in  love with someone who I spent a number of years with, but compared to how I feel now that was NOT love. I now know that when it’s real you will know, when you have found your soul mate  or twin flame you will recognise each other, even if there’s an obstacle such as distance in between.

‘write an ode to something or someone you love’

Dear Mr. X

Happy Valentine’s Day, while we can’t celebrate it together this year due to the distance, just know that I’m thinking of you, you mean a lot to me. I find it so strange, cool and exciting this whole ‘situation’ we have! But I’m committed to it just like you, and really excited. And yes, this meeting is fated like you said,  we’ve known each other for years and so glad we’ve admitted how we feel, and said the ‘L word’. I’m so glad that I’ve found you. Next year rather than a blog post I hope to be by your side!

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Love Kimmy

Book Review- Gorillaz in The Bay #1, by De’Kari. 4 ‘King of Street Lit’ Stars!

GITBYo this one surprised me! I don’t really read street lit, and I’m not a massive fan. Mainly due to the way men are sometimes portrayed, and women sometimes degraded. It breaks my heart. The ‘street life’ is not really for me, and y’all know I like my book boyfriends in a suit and successful!  But I respect the authors, publishers and readers who live for it. I downloaded this novel  on Kindle Unlimitedas I crossed paths with the author on Facebook. I was really interested in his work from speaking to him, it was him himself, his level of maturity and being so gentleman like that pulled me in and really struck me. So one night, I secretly downloaded his work and started to read, I could not put it down from the opening chapters. I’m glad I read it, I did enjoy it and he did surprise me…. let’s get into this review!

Blurb

Back on the streets after serving a three-year prison bid, T-RIDA is faced with mad drama and huge obstacles, including a baby mama whose troubles become an added weight on his back.

The future doesn’t look promising until he takes to the streets to do what he does best, lay suckaz down! But at what price will his criminal prosperity come?

When a man chooses to dance with the Devil, he must pay for his sins. Can T-Rida escape the inevitable downfall as he and his crew climb to the top in the game and prove that they are the real GORILLAZ IN THE BAY? Or will he meet a fatal demise?

T-Rida’s homies, TOMMY GUNZ and VOORHEEZE, are about that gunsmoke too, as they clique up to form the Neva Die Dragon Gang, the Bay area’s most feared and respected organization. But on the road to riches, a man can become his own worst enemy. When that happens, the heavens will cry blood and the game will become downright unscrupulous.

Kim’s Review- 4 ‘King of Street Lit’ Stars

Oh gosh where do I even start, first of all the opening chapters and prologue pulled me in. The story starts off so strongly right in the middle of the action, the action is actually the ending. Yes! Author De’kari  penned this novel in a style I love, and have recently done myself ‘back to front’. If you think of the movie Pulp Fiction, how it starts at the end. So naturally in all the middle of the madness I kept reading. Here’s in all honestly what I enjoyed.

Storytelling- Author De’Kari is an excellent story teller, his style is kinda like writing in ‘beats’, he brought the story to different climaxes and peaks. I loved this. There were tense moments. I didn’t have the usual problem I have had with some books in the urban genre where there’s  a hella-lot of violence, cursing, and no real plot. There is one, in a nutshell we follow the very bitter-sweet rise and fall of one of California’s notorious drug lords T’rida, as he becomes caught up in a very real life situation that plagues many people. This causes him to consider his self worth as a man. (No spoilers). I found the story line to be realistic, sad at times, and I started to really care about what happened to this bad boy, with clearly a big heart from some of his actions.

Characters- the male line up is fierce y’all I won’t lie. We have a male line up  who literally started from the bottom, and made their way to the top.  They become business men and bosses of an organised network. This I loved and respected, even though it was mainly via the drug trade, these men had hard work and hustle in them, and gave back to the community. They were not fully stereotypical little boys running around killing people, and not much aim in life. I found the male line up to be a little more mature, but deadly!  I mentioned this in another novel I read by a mature male urban writer, I think when the authors are a little more mature, the characters become more mature too and realistic too.  I found this with author De’Kari also. Now, while we’re talking about men ( and I laugh as I type this), about fifty percent of the way through one of the men -T’ride changed persona. I loved it. The author put him in an Armani suit and wearing my favourite  smelling aftershave. (  I kinda crossed my legs, licked my lips and  tried hard not to sniff my Kindle LOLZ).  I really enjoyed experiencing T’Rida’s  growth,  maturity, and sex appeal!  As he became a ‘boss’, even his appearance started to match it, and he himself realised that he had to look that part, to be a boss. Overall, I enjoyed the characters.

Overall I found this to be a true to form ‘street lit’ novel and a tale that many from the urban areas of the West Coast, in California, will resonate with. Even if you’re not from this part of the world, like me, if you have any understanding of inner city life at all then you’ll resonate with the characters and story line.  For me as a first time reader of this author’s work, as it’s so bang on the money with what readers of this genre would want, I would say this author, if he keeps going will easily earn himself  a ‘King of Street Lit’ title.  This is a series from what I understand and books two-four are out, with great reviews also. He also has a number of other works published. From me as a first time reader,  and non street lit reader four enjoyable starts for a really well delivered, engaging, entertaining, bitter sweet, tense story, that even has some romance and love and loss involved. I understand that the author wishes to write some romance and other genres too, and I would for sure read his romance.

I recommend Gorillaz in The Bay to anyone who likes traditional street lit, urban tales, mafia tales, organised crime and drug lord tales…that are believable .

I hope the author will agree to an interview, as like I said I’ve spoken to him one on one and he’s personality and vibe as a person seems so different. I’m interested to find out his inspiration, and motivation for penning Gorillaz in The Bay! So stay tuned, let’s see if I can get him to agree to to an interview!

Grab your copy on Amazon, it’s also free to read on Kindle Unlimited   and still on five stars with thirty- nine reviews! At the time of this review. Well done Author De’Kari.

Book Review- Behind The Red Door, by Alexandra Christian (Paranormal Romance) 3.5 Stars

Strange Bed Fellows

Thank you to  Mocha Memoirs Press Publisher for an ARC for an honest review. Let’s get into the review

Welcome to The Oubliette.

Cali Barrows has had it with love. After wasting three years with the man she thought was the love of her life, she finds out that he’s been sleeping with his boss. Broken-hearted and bored, Cali’s life had become a string of TV dinners and tawdry romance novels. She wondered where her life was going until she followed the mysterious stranger through the red door and enters a world that few would ever know existed.

The Oubliette is a safe haven for all those creatures that go bump in the night. They cater to a very particular clientele and only those who seek it out may find the red door leading into a dark paradise of otherworldly delights. Together with her vampire hosts, André and Leo, Cali becomes a matchmaker for the undead and unwittingly gets herself into all sorts of mischief, all the while slipping into a decadent world where every sensual desire is fulfilled.

Kim’s Review 3.5 Stars

I do love paranormal romance, it’s a genre that I respect a lot especially the writers.  It takes a lot to build an  out-of -this- world, world,  that’s realistic, and also tell a believable story in the ‘make believe’ world. I was drawn to this story due to the cover, and the blurb. It felt almost mysterious to me and drew me in. It’s a  well written story, and  was an enjoyable story to read.  I did like the characters and found them engaging. In all honestly for me while it was enjoyable to read, and the make believe was believable and great, I found that the steam  level and sex  was a little over written and a bit too long. I love steamy stories and  I am a big erotica fan, this is the first time I have felt as a reader it was too much for me, or overdone.  I had to skip over some of it and continue the story.

That said, I feel it’s worth a read if you like paranormal stories, you don’t have a problem with homosexual sex,  high amounts of steam and  erotica, and don’t mind if a steamy scene is very over written and detailed, a good few pages long to read! Overall, I recommend it for true vampire story lovers who also are fans of  high heat level erotica. 3.5 stars from me.

Book Review- ‘Right For The Job’ by Laura Westbrook (Billionaire Romance) 4 Yummy Stars. Mmmm He’s Yummy!

Right For The JobThank you to this author for an ARC in exchange for an honest review, it’s been a minute since I’ve read a good Billionaire romance, featuring a yummy rich man! The cover pulled me in, I do like a man in a suit. I really enjoyed this novella, the main guy reminded me of  E.L James’ Christen Grey in Fifty Shades of Grey… let’s get into this review…

Blurb

She knows she’s right for the job. The only person standing in her way is Shane Bennett.

Amanda works hard. At twenty-three, she has her life planned out and her career is on the rise. This interview is her big chance. She’s prepared and ready to nail it. But she isn’t expecting Shane Bennett to walk through that door.

Shane’s only visiting Amanda’s branch. It’s a courtesy. He doesn’t expect to meet the love of his life. But now that he has, he’ll do everything in his power to keep her.

If you enjoy steamy romance stories with alpha men, guilty pleasures, happily ever afters, no cliffhangers, no cheating, and a touch over-the-top, then you’ll love Right For the Job. Get your fix with a story that hits the spot and doesn’t take all year to read.

Kim’s Review- 4 Yummy Stars!

I do love rich and successful men in my romance, but I prefer them when they’re not too arrogant in how they treat females, due to their riches. The whole control factor I’m not a big fan of. This novella features a great male lead I liked Shane from the get go, right off the bat his coolness, the dry sarcastic personality at times, and of course he’s successful  business. What I really enjoyed about this novella is the characters themselves. I was drawn to Shane’s vibe, and his way of ‘getting what he wanted’ his girl! The female lead she too is like-able, but has a very innocent way about her.

The story flowed well, there’s a great steamy moment between these two. And I found the author did a good job too! The story to me ended in an unexpected way,  which I liked and enjoyed. While I guessed something right ( no spoilers), I did not expect Shane to allow Amanda to be a ‘career woman’. I half expected the author to follow the pack and turn her into a rich man’s wife! Kudos to Laura Westbrook for breaking the norm.

Overall, this is a quick moving novella, and yes there is insta-love, so if you’re not a fan of this keep this in mind. But what I will say is  the insta-love is realistic, I have read some  ‘insta-love’ that just make me shake my head in disappointment, and cringe. Given the way these two meet and the work environment, and how it ties in with the story for me it was believable and realistic. And  let’s face it sometimes we meet people and ‘just know’ we want them, as our hero Shane did. Four yummy stars from me for a yummy male lead, well written story, good flow and a happy ever after that was unexpected. I would recommend this author to all those who like contemporary romance, rich men ,  billionaire romances, and of course don’t mind  insta-love.  I would read more from this author. Rambles, Chit Chat and Works In Progress…

Finally!!!…..

I’ve not done one of these blogs for a long time, and I’m really excited to finally be back at my laptop writing a  blog post! So today I finally managed to finish off writing the end of a paranormal story that Didi sent me. You may remember the post I did way back in 2017 ‘The hardest scene you’ve ever had to write’   I wrote this on Christmas Eve 2017! I was pondering ‘how the hell do I finish up this story?’, ‘what can I do with this?’ it’s the start of a story she sent me for Blurred Lines- The Suspenseful Collection Volume 2. Just over two years later I finally cracked it!! LOL I am so not a paranormal writer, this was a challenge and I am so glad I done it. This is just one of the things I’ve loved about collaborating on this anthology, writing in other genres and being stretched to my limits.

So now we need to start one more story each from our last conversation, for the other to finish. I have made a start on one, and will be sending it to her this week. Then we’re done! And collection two needs to go to editing.

Work In Progress…

In other news, I signed on the dotted line with my new publishing house I still can’t believe it has happened after all the submissions I made, for Sacrifices. It’s a historical romantic suspense, novel I penned last April 2019. And for the first time I will share the blurb that I’ve written….

What if twenty-five years later a forbidden first love reappears, could you forgive the past sacrifices you made to rekindle your love?

Sacrifices is a powerful romance story with historic and suspenseful events, that take place between Jane and Louis, both from different worlds yet they become caught up in a heart-felt forbidden love story. Starting from the 1960s jazz scene in London. In the present day and past, readers are taken back through Jane’s experiences as a twenty-seven-year-old jazz singer, forced to make life changing decisions based on a sudden change of events between her, and her lover Louis from Jackson, Mississippi. As a young woman Jane works hard to make a name for herself , she has dreams, hopes and a burning desire to leave London for New Orleans with her best friend and Louis. Her dreams came crashing down in a bitter sweet love story and fight for survival, that Louis is part of. Twenty-five years later Jane and Louis’ paths cross, unexpectedly on a Greek island, during an exotic cruise around the Mediterranean they both go on. Sparks fly, old feelings from the past surface, a love triangle begins and unexplained questions from the past unfold for both characters. Causing them to both question whether they can forgive the past and grow together.

Sacrifices is a romantic, suspenseful story, with a throwback to a classic era that draws readers into the events of the time, that surround Jane and Louis’ demise, and love story. Set in the backdrop of the 1960s jazz scene, the present day, and exotic Mediterranean paradise.

Sounds cool right? I’m excited, of course this blurb may change but this is what I’ve drafted.  I sent back the book cover brief to the publisher over the weekend. I’m really keen to see what they come up with based on my vision of the cover. The release day I am awaiting for them to schedule but it will be 2020 I imagine spring or summer time. It will be in paperback, ebook, and I hope audio too!

So while I am awaiting the edits of Sacrifices, I’m finishing off my project with Didi for April, and finishing off writing the last half of my romantic crime thriller.  I keep banging on about this, and really wanna complete it! This week I will share a snippet from it. I’ve told my new ‘home’ about this WIP . They’ve  asked me to send over the outline and  an expected completion date. If they like it,  and contract the crime thriller to publish also with Sacrifices , that would just be the icing on the cake for me too! These are the two projects I am focusing on now.

Rambles….

Well the year has started off well for me I must say, busy but none-the-less really well. Spring seems to be in the air also, we’ve a few nice warmish days, and I must say I look forward to it arriving.

I have some author interviews lined up that I look forward to sharing with you, one author in particular who I just loved reading their novel. And a good dose of book reviews will be coming your way this week. I’ve read a couple good reads already and we’re only in February!

This Friday I will turn thirty-seven I can’t believe it, and a girlfriend of mine this morning said ‘we’re heading out for lunch’, which will be nice I look forward to it.

And it’s the school holiday here, so I have two weeks off at home which I am looking forward to. To have some quality time with my family. The time goes so fast I can’t believe the first break is here.

And that’s about it guys a little update on WIP and where I’m at and what’s coming up. I hope you’re all doing well? Oh yes, before I forget I did my first ever interview myself that was live. You can catch that here on this link.

Also Chances, A Puerto Rican Love Affair is now live too!!

So, I’ll catch you later this week with review, interviews and more.

Much Love

#review #5stars Chances, a Puerto Rican Love Affair, by Kim Knight #Newrelease

Thank you for reading!

Didi Oviatt -Author

MY REVIEW:

I read this whole book yesterday from cover to cover in one day – two sittings! Chances, a Puerto Rican Love Affair is book three in Kim Knight’s romance set in paradise series, but each book can be read as a stand alone. It’s smooth pace, paired with a few insanely suspenseful scenes makes it a very easily devoured book! The characters are realistic, memorable, and relatable, especially Gabby the main character. Along with her bestie in Spain Valentino, and her new found girlfriends in Puerto Rico Pricilla and Sonia. Then there’s Chris, the questionable long distance cheater, and Mateo the family man with great business potential that meets Gabby’s eye while traveling for work. Each character is drawn up well, and quickly wiggles their way into your heart.

Gabby is a real estate agent, and after having a rough patch and breaking off her long distance relationship…
